Financial support to various organizations and funding for our many service projects is made possible through the generous support of local sponsors and our fundraising efforts. 100% of all funds that are raised are donated to the various service projects we support.
Women of Achievement Luncheon
The sole mission of the Women of Achievement Luncheon is to honor the volunteer service and leadership of women. Chartered in 1976, the Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau is the oldest organization to recognize the significant contributions of women for their dedication and commitment to the region. Over 120 women have been selected from nominations submitted by individuals, organizations and the community. The honorees represent a diverse group of women in our community and are recognized each November at an awards luncheon for the lasting impact each has made on the region. The generous support of corporate and individual sponsors enables Zonta to recognize these deserving women and provide funding to organizations that improve the lives of others locally and worldwide. Additionally, the support of this event has been overwhelming, with more than 500 attending each year. Please Join Us this year as we celebrate this year’s amazing nominees! Zonta 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run – Heels to Heal Haiti
This annual race is our primary fundraiser for the local Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau’s Service Projects in Haiti, a mission that is near and dear to our hearts. For the last six years, we have worked in partnership with the Haitian American Caucus (HAC) in Croix des Bouquets, Haiti to assist women and children with education, skill-building, and healthcare. We have treated over 3,000 people at our Zonta dental clinics, over 1,300 people at our Zonta medical clinics, and have fitted hundreds of adult Haitians with reading glasses – and the numbers will continue to grow! HAC’s ultimate goal is to have its own established medical clinic, and support of our 5K will help us provide the resources to meet this critical need. Please Join Us or become a sponsor for our annual 5K!
Zonta Flea Market
For the past 30+ years, this event has been known as the “Neiman Marcus” of flea markets. It is held annually in the Spring and attracts bargain hunters from all around. Additionally, at this event, the public can visit Cafe Zonta, which serves baked items, coffee and water. As the community looks forward to this event, we successfully net approximately $1100-1300 each year. Money raised supplements our regular service budget, and helps provide scholarships.
As a Zonta member, participating in fundraising events, such as this one, is where friendships, mentorships, and connections are made. In preparation for this event, our members accumulate their garage sale items in a storage facility throughout the year. Preparing the items, pricing them, setting up, and participating in the event count towards our member’s annual expected service hours. Working along side fellow Zontians creates camaraderie that is later harnessed to tackle our many Service Projects.
(A special thanks to the Girardot Center, whose residents help us with this event: unloading storage units & vehicles, and cleaning up afterwards! Thank you!)
