2018 Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient
We are pleased to announce that our 2018 Lifetime Achievement honoree is Dr. Karen Hendrickson.
Dr. Hendrickson, retired from Southeast Health in 2011, after a distinguished career as a nurse, administrator, educator and visionary. She began her career at Southeast in 1966, when she helped set up the hospital’s first intensive care unit. She was also instrumental in the development of the hospital’s open heart surgery program. Karen’s primary focus was to help ensure quality nursing education in our region to meet the needs of area patients. She was instrumental in the opening of Southeast Health College of Nursing RN program and Cape Career and Technology Center’s LPN program.
For her dedication and hard work, she received the Outstanding Missourian Award, Southeast Missouri State University’s Alumni Merit Award, Advocate of the Year Award and served as President on the Missouri State Board of Nursing; as well as Missouri Organization of Nurse Executives, Eighth District Missouri Nurse’s Association and Sigma Theta Tau Chapter of the International Nursing Honor Society.
Karen lives in Cape Girardeau with her husband Jim. They have two grown sons Ryan, Rhett and wife Jennifer and one granddaughter.
