EMPOWERING WOMEN

through service & Advocacy

We envision a world in which women's rights are recognized as human rights and every woman is able to achieve her full potential. In such a world, women have access to all resources and are represented in decision-making positions on an equal basis with men.

Advocacy

Zonta advocacy is action taken in "the public interest" of for "the greater good" with respect to empowering women and girls and promoting and protecting their human rights. Here is Cape Girardeau, action is taken on an international, national, and local level.

Service

Service

Zonta not only advocates for women's human rights and gender equality in all facets of life, we also support projects to empower women and girls to understand their rights and realize their full potential.
Education provides the tools and resources to empower women to make decisions about their lives and the future of their families.

Financial support to various organizations and funding for our many service projects is made possible through the generous support of local sponsors and our fundraising efforts. 100% of all funds that are raised are donated to the various service projects we support.

Women’s rights are human rights, essential for the development of all peoples.

Women of Achievement. Professional standards of excellence.  World changers. Professionals. Entrepreneurs.  Educators.  Authors.  All of these words describe Zonta and its membership.

Join us on Facebook November 1 - 20 for Zonta's Virtual Women of Excellence Event!

Historically, the Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau has annually celebrated 8-10 women who excel at making a difference in our community, region, and the world at our Woman of Achievement luncheon. These nominees are honored at the luncheon which culminates in the announcement of that year’s Woman of Achievement recipient.  For many years this celebratory luncheon has been one of our most cherished events, so it is with great reluctance that we announce a change of plans for 2020.

In this year, which is like none we could have imagined, Zonta is providing a VIRTUAL event and expanding the number of honorees to include more “women of excellence.”   This year’s nominations range from essential workers to physicians to public school helpers to athletes to bankers to police officers and to many other women who have overcome, or helped others to overcome, difficulties in recent years, but especially in 2020.

Donate Today!

Whether your personal excellence lies in your profession or your perseverance or your encouragement of others, we invite you to join us every day November 1 - 20 on the Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau Facebook page to learn about this year’s Women of Excellence honorees as well as the many organizations our local Zonta Club supports. We hope that once you see the work that Zonta is doing in our community you will be moved to make a donation so that, even in this challenging year, we can continue to honor exceptional women and provide encouragement and support that make a difference in the lives of women and girls in our community.

Why we are a part of Zonta!

Zonta gives me the opportunity to connect with other professional women, who are in a different field than myself.  It allows me to support and change our local community for the better.  But most important to me, is that it has given me a deeper understanding of the challenges women face around the world and what I can do to help!

I have been in Zonta for 35 years.  Zonta's mission of empowering women through service and advocacy calls to me.  We have made an impact both locally and internationally.

Working in a predominately male field, I am humbled by the women acquaintances and friendships I've made through Zonta.

Casey Brunke

I'm so proud to be a founding member of Zonta.  I have met so many wonderful ladies that I would not have met otherwise.  I love all the projects that we do; helping so many people.  I enjoy being on the service committee and helping with the vo-tech graduation ceremony.

Mary Scherer

Ever since I joined Zonta, I have been involved in the Financial Literacy classes that Zonta holds in various places.  I have always had a passion for financial literacy and I'm glas to be a part of an organization that allows me to use my gift to help others.

Raising strong women is very important to me.  This is why I love Zonta.  After all, everyone knows it's the women who get everything done!

Kristy Nordin
Vice President/Mortgage Loan Officer at Wood & Huston Bank

More than five years ago, I made the decision to join Zonta because of the magnificent women I have met and have seen first-hand, they ways we are impacting women locally and around the world.  I look forward to remaining a Zontian because there is still so much work to be done.  Together, we're stronger and can accomplish great things.
