Service Projects

Zontians are encouraged to complete at least 20 service hours per year. We have a wide variety of opportunities in which members may participate, and more projects may be added through the year as the needs of the community arise. Our current list of service opportunities include the following:

Crisis Aid International

 

 

The club supports the Crisis Aid House of Hope Refuge Home. This home is a refuge for sex trafficked victims including women and children. The club helps to make hygiene kits for the residents to use during their stay at the home.

Haiti Project - Empowering Women through Education and Support


Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau recognized the importance of reaching beyond our borders to address the challenges of poverty, inequality and violence against women. In 2011 our club began mission trips to Croix des Bouquet in Haiti. Since then, we have made a tremendous impact on medical & dental health services, education, skill building, and support.  Learn more by clicking here.

Foster Adopt Connect-Cape Girardeau


We provide funds to FAC-Cape that supports Foster Care Services in Cape Girardeau, MO, FosterAdopt Connect. We have helped organize clothing for foster kids at Sammy's Window clothing closet and food pantry and gives training to foster parents. Zontians have also helped with meals at the Hope Children's Home in Jackson, MO that provides a temporary, healing home environment for children awaiting foster parents. Zonta is also providing volunteers to help with the Office Chair Games event.

Mercy Health Foundation

 

Zonta donated funds to help with providing books for children at the hospital.

Missouri Girl’s State


Girl’s State promotes pride in America, and creates a mythical state that the citizens (high school girls) govern at the city, county and state level. We provide 3 scholarships for attendees from Jackson High School and 3 scholarships for attendees from Cape Girardeau High School.

Safehouse for Women


We support the VintageNOW Fashion Show that raises funds for the Safehouse for Women.  VintageNOW is a fun filled evening packed with entertainment and most importantly EMPOWERMENT to all who participate and attend. Truly a magical event benefiting the Safe House of Southeast Missouri.

Southeast Missouri Food Bank

 

This organization provides food assistance for children in the Southeast Missouri area. 

Zonta helps with A Better Childhood Mobile Food Pantry.  This pantry held exclusively for school students and their families; help respond to those needs by providing healthy food for the family.  During the mobile pantry students and their families receive a variety of shelf stable and fresh food during the distribution and take home 30-40 pounds of food.  The food distributions are usually held on school campuses or at other community-friendly sites. 

Zonta also supports and helps to pack "Backpacks for Fridays" to provide weekend backpacks to students.  These students are selected by teachers and counselors receive personal packages of weekend food each Friday before they leave school.

Southeast Missouri Suicide Prevention, Inc



SEMO Suicide Prevention helps bring awareness to suicide prevention and raises funds to be used in the local community.  Zonta provides funds and volunteers to support the Glow Walk hosted at the Jackson City Park in Jackson, MO. This walk helps cover costs for counseling services for those that qualify for financial hardship.  It also provides an opportunity for individuals that have been affected by suicide or mental illness to come together and make connections.

Southeast Missouri Network Against Sexual Violence



SEMO NASV has a mission to educate the community about child abuse. Over the past 20 years, Green Bear has educated thousands of adults and kids about the dangers, warning signs and prevention of child abuse through our various programs.

Street Level



Street Level Cape Girardeau aids, assists and advocates for people surviving homelessness.  Zontians have helped with making meals and other needs in supporting this local organization. 

Walk for Women

SEMO Walk for Women


This event raises funds for Southeast Missouri State University female athlete scholarships.  The SEMO Walk for Women takes our Zontians around campus and provides interaction with some of the athletes that receive the scholarships.

SEMO University Foundation


Through the University Foundation, we provide a non-traditional female student with a $1,000 scholarship to attend Southeast Missouri State University. This is based off of need and academic standing.


CTC

CTC-School of practical nursing


The club provides a $500 scholarship to a female student in the LPN Program at the Cape Girardeau Career & Technology Center. The scholarship is given based on need and understanding.

Cape Adult Education and Literacy Program


The club helps annually with the AEL graduation reception held at the Career and Technology Center.

Zonta International Service Projects

Zonta International is dedicated to advancing the status of women through impactful service projects around the globe. By partnering with organizations like UNICEF and UNFPA, Zonta supports initiatives aimed at improving health, education, and safety for women and girls in developing countries. These projects address critical issues such as ending child marriage, preventing gender-based violence, and expanding access to quality healthcare.

The Zonta Club of Cape Girardeau proudly contributes to these global efforts, helping to empower women and create sustainable change.
